It’s Wednesday and time for our weekly #wednesdaywisdom blog post. Our original intention was to feature our ‘Best of Miami Green Space Parks” list today, but we will gladly leave this for next week, as we - i.e. me, Carola Perla, proud owner and artist of Paspalum: Luxury Picnics and Designs - recently had the privilege of being featured in CANVAS REBEL MAGAZINE.
Canvas Rebel is a South Florida publication and online portal that highlights local creatives and entrepreneurs, and as such, I was honored to be nominated for inclusion. The recognition of peers and colleagues means everything to a small business owner like me, while the interview questions themselves gave me a wonderful opportunity to reflect on my journey over the last three years.
Establishing this picnic company in Miami has come with its set of challenges and little triumphs. As an artist, the act of wearing the cap of entrepreneur, strategizing financial plans, and tooting one’s own horn - well, it can sometimes feel strange and antithetical to the creative, organic drive behind my true purpose to bring beauty and spontaneous harmony into people’s lives. But I accept that one cannot happen without the other, and so I wear both hats with the spirit of an adventurer.

Hi Carola, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for my picnic styling service is probably best described as a series of ‘lightbulb’ moments. It didn’t come to me all at once, but rather flashed like a string of little beacons being set alight along a crest of hills that makes up my life. Which does make it sound so much more monumental than a picnic service has a right to! But the truth is that my picnic events mean a great deal to me, in the way that one’s own business and all the risk and sweat and uncertainty and investment and creative exhaustion means a lot to any small business owner.
